Blackrock
Residence
Rebuilt on the original slab after a devastating fire, Blackrock Residence is a contemporary homestead that honours the past while creating a future for the next generation.
After a devastating fire destroyed the original home, leaving only the concrete slab, the brief for Blackrock Residence was to create something new while honouring the past.
Hierarchy Group were engaged to design a contemporary homestead that nods to the memory of the original dwelling, and reinterpreted for the next generation.
Clad in cedar weatherboards and Oamaru stonework, the home settles into its rural surroundings, chosen for their strong connection to the local landscape.
At the heart of the house is an open plan kitchen with a butler’s pantry, anchored by an open fireplace in the adjacent living space. Upstairs, 4 bedrooms provide space for a growing family.
Rooted in the same slab and overlooking the same land, Blackrock Residence is a story of renewal, designed to continue the legacy of the family farm for generations to come.
This project was brought to life through collaboration withGre, whose experience was essential to the build. We are also grateful for the photography that captures the essence of Blackrock Residence.
